Spring Vegetable Garden Planting is Here!

March to May is the perfect time to plant a spring vegetable garden for growing delicious, nutritious food for your family. We have high-quality, Bonnie plants in-stock NOW including lettuces, strawberries and cabbages. These hardy vegetables thrive in cooler weather, and will tolerate light frost as long as it’s not a hard freeze. (Be sure to cover them if temperatures drop into the 20’s at night.

Seed Potatoes for Spring planting available at Cherokee Feed & Seed storesSeed potatoes should be planted from March to May, leaving 12” in between plants in a row. Allow 2 ½’ to 3’ between rows. The plants have reached optimum maturity for harvesting when the tops begin to die back.

Seed potato varieties available at Cherokee Feed & Seed include:

  • Kennebec – Matures 80 days
    Produces a high yield of large oblong tubers with thin smooth tan skin and white flesh. Excellent for baking boiling, chipping and frying.
  • Yukon Gold – Matures 65 days
    Yellow flesh. Tubers oval, shallow pink eyes, yellowish-buff skin and light yellow flesh. Resistant to potato virus A and potato leafroll virus.
  • Pontiac Red – Matures 80 days
    High-yielding. Tubers round to oblong, medium deep eyes, dark red skin drought tolerant.
  • Fingerlings – Matures 80-90 days
    Elongated and slightly knobby tubers making them appear like fingers. Very flavorful. Can be prepared roasted, broiled, baked, grilled or broiled.
